Tsim Sha Tsui Properties Limited (HKG:247) shareholders (or potential shareholders) will be happy to see that the Executive Chairman, Chee Siong Ng, recently bought a whopping HK$699m worth of stock, at a price of HK$18.74. While that only increased their holding size by 2.7%, it is still a big swing by our standards.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Tsim Sha Tsui Properties

Notably, that recent purchase by Chee Siong Ng is the biggest insider purchase of Tsim Sha Tsui Properties shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that even when the share price was higher than HK$18.00 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. Generally speaking, it catches our eye when an insider has purchased shares at above current prices, as it suggests they believed the shares were worth buying, even at a higher price. Chee Siong Ng was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Tsim Sha Tsui Properties insiders own about HK$25b worth of shares (which is 66% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
