Possible Bearish Signals With Envestnet Insiders Disposing Stock
Possible Bearish Signals With Envestnet Insiders Disposing Stock
Many Envestnet, Inc. (NYSE:ENV) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Envestnet
Envestnet
The Chief Legal Officer, Shelly O'Brien, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$500k worth of shares at a price of US$56.84 each. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$48.28. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insider Ownership
I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It appears that Envestnet insiders own 1.2% of the company, worth about US$32m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
