Possible Bearish Signals With Brink's Insiders Disposing Stock

Possible Bearish Signals With Brink's Insiders Disposing Stock

Brink
Simply Wall St ·  02/23 09:52

In the last year, many The Brink's Company (NYSE:BCO) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Brink's

Brink's

The insider, Michael Beech, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$3.0m worth of shares at a price of US$67.77 each. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$81.03, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was 62% of Michael Beech's holding.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Brink's insiders own 2.4% of the company, worth about US$89m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Brink's Tell Us?

Brink's

There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Brink's insiders. The modest level of insider ownership is, at least, some comfort.
