Even if it's not a huge purchase, we think it was good to see that Sang Lee, the Independent Chairman of the Board of PCB Bancorp (NASDAQ:PCB) recently shelled out US$67k to buy stock, at US$15.95 per share. Although the purchase is not a big one, by either a percentage standpoint or absolute value, it can be seen as a good sign.

PCB Bancorp Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

PCB Bancorp

In fact, the recent purchase by Independent Chairman of the Board Sang Lee was not their only acquisition of PCB Bancorp shares this year. They previously made an even bigger purchase of US$309k worth of shares at a price of US$16.10 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$15.96. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

Happily, we note that in the last year insiders paid US$2.0m for 124.62k shares. But they sold 16.46k shares for US$302k. Overall, PCB Bancorp insiders were net buyers during the last year. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. If you click on the chart, you can see all the individual transactions, including the share price, individual, and the date!

Insider Ownership Of PCB Bancorp

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 21% of PCB Bancorp shares, worth about US$47m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
