For Brady Insiders, Selling US$2.3m Of Shares Was A Smart Move

For Brady Insiders, Selling US$2.3m Of Shares Was A Smart Move

Despite the fact that Brady Corporation (NYSE:BRC) stock rose 13% last week, insiders who sold US$2.3m worth of stock in the previous 12 months are likely to be better off. Selling at an average price of US$58.42, which is higher than the current price, may have been the wisest decision for these insiders as their investment would have been worth less now than when they sold.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Brady

Brady

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Independent Director, Elizabeth Bruno, sold US$1.4m worth of shares at a price of US$58.75 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$67.97. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 2.4% of Elizabeth Bruno's stake.
