Investors who take an interest in P10, Inc. (NYSE:PX) should definitely note that the Independent Director, David McCoy, recently paid US$8.21 per share to buy US$164k worth of the stock. That's a very solid buy in our book, and increased their holding by a noteworthy 25%.

P10 Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The insider, Michael Feinglass, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$891k worth of shares at a price of US$8.20 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even slightly below the current price of US$8.30. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was just 25% of Michael Feinglass's stake.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 124.00k shares worth US$1.0m. But insiders sold 360.17k shares worth US$3.2m. In total, P10 insiders sold more than they bought over the last year. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. P10 insiders own 35% of the company, currently worth about US$324m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

It is good to see recent purchasing. However, the longer term transactions are not so encouraging. The high levels of insider ownership, and the recent buying by some insiders suggests they are well aligned and optimistic. In addition to knowing about insider transactions going on, it's beneficial to identify the risks facing P10.
