Investing in stocks inevitably means buying into some companies that perform poorly. But the long term shareholders of Addsino Co., Ltd. (SZSE:000547) have had an unfortunate run in the last three years. So they might be feeling emotional about the 66% share price collapse, in that time. And more recent buyers are having a tough time too, with a drop of 41% in the last year. The falls have accelerated recently, with the share price down 22% in the last three months.

Given the past week has been tough on shareholders, let's investigate the fundamentals and see what we can learn.

Because Addsino made a loss in the last twelve months, we think the market is probably more focussed on revenue and revenue growth, at least for now. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually desire strong revenue growth. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

Over the last three years, Addsino's revenue dropped 29% per year. That's definitely a weaker result than most pre-profit companies report. Arguably, the market has responded appropriately to this business performance by sending the share price down 18% (annualized) in the same time period. Bagholders or 'baggies' are people who buy more of a stock as the price collapses. They are then left 'holding the bag' if the shares turn out to be worthless. After losing money on a declining business with falling stock price, we always consider whether eager bagholders are still offering us a reasonable exit price.

We regret to report that Addsino shareholders are down 41% for the year. Unfortunately, that's worse than the broader market decline of 16%. However, it could simply be that the share price has been impacted by broader market jitters. It might be worth keeping an eye on the fundamentals, in case there's a good opportunity. Unfortunately, last year's performance may indicate unresolved challenges, given that it was worse than the annualised loss of 7% over the last half decade. We realise that Baron Rothschild has said investors should "buy when there is blood on the streets", but we caution that investors should first be sure they are buying a high quality business. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Addsino better, we need to consider many other factors. Take risks, for example - Addsino has 1 warning sign we think you should be aware of.
