The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Alcoa
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Executive VP & Chief Human Resources Officer, Tammi Jones, sold US$859k worth of shares at a price of US$30.78 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$42.38). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was just 36% of Tammi Jones's stake. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Tammi Jones.

Insider Ownership
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Alcoa insiders own about US$85m worth of shares. That equates to 1.1% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
