Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk on Thursday paid his respects to inventor Nikola Tesla, after whom his EV company Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is named, while noting that using direct current (DC) is better now.

亿万富翁企业家伊隆·马斯克于周四向发明家尼古拉·特斯拉致敬,他的电动汽车公司特斯拉公司(NASDAQ:TSLA)就以特斯拉的名字命名,同时指出现在使用直流(DC)更好。

What Happened: "Nikola Tesla was great...," Musk wrote in response to an X user who posted pictures of Tesla's statue at Niagara Falls In Ontario on his birthday, July 10. Nikola Tesla has inspired the names of two EV companies thus far, Musk's Tesla and EV truck maker Nikola Corp.

Tesla is most known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating-current (AC) electricity supply system. Talking about Tesla's contributions to the field of science, Musk said, "...AC was the right move back then."

"These days, with the proliferation of electronics that use DC and advanced power electronics, it would be better to use DC. High voltage DC is also materially more efficient for long distance electricity transmission."

Despite his criticism of the platform, the CEO also posted a link to a Wikipedia page on high-voltage direct current to validate his point.

Why It Matters: Musk has long been critical of Wikipedia for what he claims to be a 'left-wing bias' owing to its dependency on mainstream media sources.

In January 2023, Musk also said that X's Community Notes is going to "great lengths" to avoid the "Wikipedia left-wing editorial problem" while also not being biased towards the right.
