We'd be surprised if Daktronics, Inc. (NASDAQ:DAKT) shareholders haven't noticed that the Executive Vice President of Commercial, Bradley Wiemann, recently sold US$301k worth of stock at US$13.67 per share. The eyebrow raising move amounted to a reduction of 17% in their holding.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Daktronics

Daktronics

Notably, that recent sale by Bradley Wiemann is the biggest insider sale of Daktronics shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at below the current price (US$13.90). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. It is worth noting that this sale was only 17% of Bradley Wiemann's holding.

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Daktronics insiders own about US$76m worth of shares. That equates to 12% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
