Malaysia's Semiconductor IC Design Park Launches, Ushering A New Era In Tech Innovation
The Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park was officially launched today, marking a significant step in Malaysia's ambition to become a global leader in the semiconductor industry. The launch, held at PFCC in Puchong, was a highlight of the KL20 initiative introduced last April, and was attended by prominent figures including YB Rafizi Ramli, Minister of Economy; YAB Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari, Menteri Besar of Selangor; and YB Ng Sze Han, Selangor EXCO for Investment, Trade, and Mobility.
The new park, developed in collaboration with the federal government, international semiconductor companies, and venture capitalists, aims to elevate Malaysia from "Made in Malaysia" to "Made by Malaysia." The initiative is set to leverage the country's technological capabilities, fostering innovation and enhancing Malaysia's reputation in high-tech manufacturing and design. Under the 12th Malaysia Plan, the emphasis is on high-growth, high-value electronics and electrical (E&E) industries, prioritising high-value activities and quality investments.
Spanning 60,000 square feet, the park is located in PFCC Puchong after an extensive evaluation of potential sites in Klang Valley, considering factors such as size, power capacity, building status, and accessibility. It will house over 400 IC Design Engineers from local, international, and joint venture IC design companies, including major tenants like Maistorage, Skyechip, Weeroc, AppAsia ChipsBank, and SensoremTek Sdn Bhd. The park will also be supported by ecosystem partners such as BlueChip VC, ARM Holdings, Cadence Design Systems, Synopsys, Siemens EDA, Keysight, and Shenzhen Semiconductor Association.
In addition to its infrastructure, the park is recruiting skilled candidates with degrees in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Computer Science, offering competitive salaries. Entry-level positions start between RM5,000 and RM6,000, with potential earnings of up to RM7,000 for those with a Master's degree or extensive industry experience. Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) is also assisting in recruiting experienced engineers to lead the expansion within the park.
"We are proud to officially launch the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park, just three months after its announcement at the KL20 Summit. This swift progress reflects the commitment of all stakeholders involved," said Yong Kai Ping, CEO of Sidec.
YB Ng Sze Han commented, "The establishment of the Malaysia IC Design Park is a testament to our dedication to transforming Malaysia into a global semiconductor leader. By fostering innovation and collaboration, we aim to create a thriving ecosystem that supports high-value job creation and technological advancement."
