Some Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Senior Vice President of Engineering, Eric Young, recently sold a substantial US$1.0m worth of stock at a price of US$9.11 per share. That's a big disposal, and it decreased their holding size by 13%, which is notable but not too bad.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Snap

Snap

In fact, the recent sale by Senior Vice President of Engineering Eric Young was not their only sale of Snap shares this year. Earlier in the year, they fetched US$15.91 per share in a -US$1.8m sale. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. The good news is that this large sale was at well above current price of US$9.25. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Snap insiders own about US$3.4b worth of shares (which is 22% of the company). This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
