NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#Apple--B&H is pleased to introduce the latest Sony G Master lens in the most popular focal length for portrait primes, the 85mm f/1.4 GM II. Eight years in the making, the new lens for E-mount mirrorless cameras features improved image quality, smoother bokeh, faster autofocus, and improved video functionality, all in professional-grade body that's 20% lighter and 13% slimmer.
A new optical design unlocks the most beautiful bokeh in an 85mm f/1.4 Sony lens yet, while improving edge-to-edge sharpness and contrast. These improvements make it one of Sony's premium options for low depth-of-field effects in portrait, wedding, event, and other low-light applications.
The new lens delivers faster autofocus at up to 3x faster than its predecessor thanks to a new XD linear motor. It was designed to match the performance in Sony's high-end mirrorless cameras, including support for continuous shooting at 120fps with the a9 III.

This compatibility extends to video applications, where the new lens also sports improved functionality. Focus tracking is precise and smooth even up to 120fps, and the lens' suppressed focus breathing is enhanced when used in conjunction with in-body breathing compensation on compatible Sony cameras. The lens body now also includes several tactile controls that improve handling during video applications.
A hybrid construction philosophy uses both metal and plastic components to maximize both durability and a low weight design. Measuring 4.2" long with a 3.3" diameter, the lens is noticeably slimmer than its predecessor. This is shared with a reduction in weight to 1.4 pounds for an all-around lighter and more compact offering that improves performance and maintains build and durability. The entire construction is dust- and moisture-resistant and a fluorine coating protects against water and oil, making the lens suitable for use in adverse weather conditions.
