From what we can see, insiders were net buyers in Amer Sports, Inc.'s (NYSE:AS ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders acquired the stock in greater numbers than they sold it.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Amer Sports

Amer Sports

The Independent Director Dennis Wilson made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$324m worth of shares at a price of US$13.00 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$13.91. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. Happily, the Amer Sports insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. Dennis Wilson was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
