Trade Alert: CFO & Treasurer Of DaVita Joel Ackerman Has Sold Stock
Some DaVita Inc. (NYSE:DVA) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the CFO & Treasurer, Joel Ackerman, recently sold a substantial US$11m worth of stock at a price of US$155 per share. That sale reduced their total holding by 49% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.
DaVita Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Notably, that recent sale by Joel Ackerman is the biggest insider sale of DaVita shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$151. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Insider Ownership Of DaVita
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that DaVita insiders own 4.2% of the company, worth about US$536m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
