Bursa Malaysia defied the generally positive trend in regional markets on Thursday, closing slightly in the red due to late selling in selected counters, particularly among financial stocks.

By 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) had declined by 1.49 points, or 0.09%, to 1,638.31 from the previous close of 1,639.80 on 11 September. The FBM KLCI had opened higher at 1,644.04, and throughout the day, it fluctuated between 1,637.91 and 1,649.87.

In the broader market, gainers outnumbered decliners with a tally of 669 to 353. Additionally, 442 counters remained unchanged, 1,002 were untraded, and 26 were suspended.

Turnover decreased to 2.61 billion units valued at RM2.94 billion, compared to the previous day's 2.96 billion units worth RM3.33 billion.
