Malaysia has welcomed a proposed US$14.7 billion (RM63 billion) investment from top US tech giants, including $Alphabet-C (GOOG.US)$, $Microsoft (MSFT.US)$, $Enovix (ENVX.US)$, $Amazon (AMZN.US)$, $Abbott Laboratories (ABT.US)$, and $Boeing (BA.US)$. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this during his bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits today.

Anwar expressed Malaysia's eagerness to enhance cooperation with the US in emerging industries. He also invited the US delegation to the upcoming Senior Officials Dialogue in Putrajaya at the end of October, marking the 10th anniversary of the Malaysia-US Comprehensive Partnership.

"Malaysia appreciates the US' leadership in United Nations Security Council Resolution 2735 and urges swift implementation of the Resolution," Anwar stated, referencing the resolution passed on June 10, which calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the US State Department highlighted Blinken's support for Malaysia's upcoming ASEAN chairmanship. The department's statement also reaffirmed the US and Malaysia's commitment to their Comprehensive Partnership, celebrating its 10th anniversary, with an emphasis on bolstering people-to-people, economic, and security ties.

The statement further noted Blinken's call for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and an urgent increase in humanitarian aid for Gaza, alongside the start of reconstruction efforts.

Anwar and Blinken later attended a gala dinner hosted by ASEAN chair Laos' Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his wife Vandara Siphandone. Blinken, in a social media post, thanked Anwar for his leadership and affirmed the commitment to strengthening ties between Malaysia and the US, noting Malaysia's role in promoting regional stability and prosperity.
