Malaysian Airports Holding Berhad released the 3Q24 passenger movements for total network of airports indicating an encouraging traffic movement resonating 2019 passenger seasonal trends.

Total passenger movements trails closely to 3Q19 at 97.7% recovery rate, registering 36.1 million passengers with International passenger movements continuing to drive growth surpassing pre-pandemic levels for three consecutive quarters. The growth registered was 7.4% over 3Q19, registering 18.9 million passenger movements.

As for domestic passenger movements, they moderated registering 17.2million passengers, reaching 88.9% of 3Q19 levels. Malaysia total passenger movements in 3Q24 registered 24.8 million passengers, reaching 92.3% of 2019 levels, driven partly by airlines continued network expansions through additional flight frequencies and new routes, commencement of new airlines, with traffic growth buoyed by the northern summer holidays, school break, long public holidays, international and national sports events.

International passenger movements continued to register above 4 million passengers in 3Q24, reaching 96.7% of pre-pandemic levels. Domestic passenger movements registered 11.8 million passengers with 87.9% recovery rate against 2019
traffic.

Istanbul SGIA total passenger movements for 3Q24 recorded 11.3million and grew by 12.0% over 3Q19. International passenger movements continue to drive growth, with a remarkable 41.9% growth over 3Q19 and 7.2% over September 2023

MAHB noted that over the past nine months, passenger movements at Istanbul SGIA have shown impressive growth, surpassing the 30 million marks, recording 31.3 million passengers, compared to 27.0 million passengers during the same period in 2019.
