KINGSEMI's (SHSE:688037) Shareholders Have More To Worry About Than Only Soft Earnings
KINGSEMI Co., Ltd.'s (SHSE:688037) recent weak earnings report didn't cause a big stock movement. Our analysis suggests that along with soft profit numbers, investors should be aware of some other underlying weaknesses in the numbers.
The Impact Of Unusual Items On Profit
For anyone who wants to understand KINGSEMI's profit beyond the statutory numbers, it's important to note that during the last twelve months statutory profit gained from CN¥63m worth of unusual items. We can't deny that higher profits generally leave us optimistic, but we'd prefer it if the profit were to be sustainable. When we crunched the numbers on thousands of publicly listed companies, we found that a boost from unusual items in a given year is often not repeated the next year. And that's as you'd expect, given these boosts are described as 'unusual'. KINGSEMI had a rather significant contribution from unusual items relative to its profit to September 2024. All else being equal, this would likely have the effect of making the statutory profit a poor guide to underlying earnings power.

Our Take On KINGSEMI's Profit Performance
As we discussed above, we think the significant positive unusual item makes KINGSEMI's earnings a poor guide to its underlying profitability. As a result, we think it may well be the case that KINGSEMI's underlying earnings power is lower than its statutory profit. But the good news is that its EPS growth over the last three years has been very impressive. The goal of this article has been to assess how well we can rely on the statutory earnings to reflect the company's potential, but there is plenty more to consider. So while earnings quality is important, it's equally important to consider the risks facing KINGSEMI at this point in time. When we did our research, we found 3 warning signs for KINGSEMI (1 can't be ignored!) that we believe deserve your full attention.
