Insiders At United Parks & Resorts Sold US$3.2m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness
Over the past year, many United Parks & Resorts Inc. (NYSE:PRKS) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
United Parks & Resorts Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Chief Zoological Officer, Christopher Dold, for US$1.4m worth of shares, at about US$51.54 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$55.02. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was only 47% of Christopher Dold's holding.

Does United Parks & Resorts Boast High Insider Ownership?
United Parks & Resorts
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. United Parks & Resorts insiders own about US$36m worth of shares. That equates to 1.1% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
