One Coursera Insider Has Reduced Their Stake
One Coursera Insider Has Reduced Their Stake
Viewing insider transactions for Coursera, Inc.'s (NYSE:COUR ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net sellers. This means that a larger number of shares were sold by insiders in relation to shares purchased.
While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.
Coursera Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Coursera
In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Co-Founder & Chairman, Andrew Ng, sold US$768k worth of shares at a price of US$20.06 per share. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$7.44). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price. Andrew Ng was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership
Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Coursera insiders own about US$66m worth of shares. That equates to 5.6% of the company. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Coursera shares in the last quarter. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Coursera insiders. But we do like the fact that insiders own a fair chunk of the company.
