Looking at Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd.'s (HKG:2238 ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net buyers. That is, there were more number of shares purchased by insiders than there were sold.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Guangzhou Automobile Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by insider Zejun Hong for HK$25m worth of shares, at about HK$2.44 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (HK$3.18), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Zejun Hong bought 30.51m shares over the last 12 months at an average price of HK$2.54. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Insider Ownership Of Guangzhou Automobile Group

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Guangzhou Automobile Group insiders own about HK$2.3b worth of shares (which is 3.0% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
