PulteGroup Insiders Sell US$16m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution
PulteGroup Insiders Sell US$16m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution
In the last year, many PulteGroup, Inc. (NYSE:PHM) insiders sold a substantial stake in the company which may have sparked shareholders' attention. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more beneficial than knowing whether they are selling, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.
Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At PulteGroup
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Executive VP & CFO, Robert O'Shaughnessy, for US$9.6m worth of shares, at about US$135 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at around the current price of US$127. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).

Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. PulteGroup insiders own 0.7% of the company, currently worth about US$183m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
