Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In Oklo
Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In Oklo
Some Oklo Inc. (NYSE:OKLO) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Co-Founder, Jacob Dewitte, recently sold a substantial US$5.0m worth of stock at a price of US$21.61 per share. However, it's crucial to note that they remain very much invested in the stock and that sale only reduced their holding by 0.9%.
The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Oklo
Oklo
Notably, that recent sale by Jacob Dewitte is the biggest insider sale of Oklo shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$23.61, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. This single sale was just 0.9% of Jacob Dewitte's stake.

Insider Ownership
For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Oklo insiders own 25% of the company, currently worth about US$712m based on the recent share price. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
So What Does This Data Suggest About Oklo Insiders?
Insiders haven't bought Oklo stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. And there weren't any purchases to give us comfort, over the last year. While insiders do own a lot of shares in the company (which is good), our analysis of their transactions doesn't make us feel confident about the company. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. For example, Oklo has 4 warning signs (and 2 which don't sit too well with us) we think you should know about.
