Bitwise Asset Management is taking on a more aggressive stance on Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC). The company filed for an ETF on Dec. 26 with a strategy to focus on business companies significantly exposed to Bitcoin.

The companies in question are firms holding more than 1,000 Bitcoin and have strong liquidity and trade volume. The catch is, instead of solely being concerned with the size of the companies, the ETF will be based on the amount of Bitcoin a company has, but no more than 25% for one company.

The submission of the Bitwise Bitcoin Standard Corporations ETF, which was originally intended to focus on firms holding large reserves of Bitcoin — such as MicroStrategy and Tesla — reflects the growing mainstream acceptance of Bitcoin as a treasury asset.

The operations of the primary asset managed within the constraint of fixed weighting of dollar exposure could enhance the appeal of the completely new kind of asset class ETF. Companies engaging in Bitcoin operations with at least a $100 million market capitalization, a minimum daily liquidity of $1 million and a free float of less than 10% are eligible for the ETF.

This move is remarkable development with respect to the wave of institutions now investing in Bitcoin. In a similar trend, on the same day as Bitwise's application, Strive Asset Management applied for ETF bonds on Bitcoin, which indicates further adoption trends.

Recall Bitcoin reaching valuations of $100,000? It wasn't just the retail investors that caused the frenzy — it was institutions and businesses investing their assets with the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs. In 2024, the approval of the spot Bitcoin ETFs by the SEC revolutionized the market and accelerated institutional investment and the integration of Bitcoin into conventional financial systems.

And then there is MicroStrategy, which has acquired more than 446,400 BTCs. If this ETF is approved then such firms may witness an even higher level of attention.

What's the bigger picture? Crypto is not a niche anymore: it's becoming a standard in corporate strategy and financial markets. Bitwise is just betting on this trend with a new approach.
