Plexus' (NASDAQ:PLXS) Investors Will Be Pleased With Their Stellar 105% Return Over the Last Five Years
The worst result, after buying shares in a company (assuming no leverage), would be if you lose all the money you put in. But on a lighter note, a good company can see its share price rise well over 100%. Long term Plexus Corp. (NASDAQ:PLXS) shareholders would be well aware of this, since the stock is up 105% in five years. It's also good to see the share price up 16% over the last quarter.
With that in mind, it's worth seeing if the company's underlying fundamentals have been the driver of long term performance, or if there are some discrepancies.
To quote Buffett, 'Ships will sail around the world but the Flat Earth Society will flourish. There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' By comparing earnings per share (EPS) and share price changes over time, we can get a feel for how investor attitudes to a company have morphed over time.
During five years of share price growth, Plexus achieved compound earnings per share (EPS) growth of 2.8% per year. This EPS growth is slower than the share price growth of 15% per year, over the same period. This suggests that market participants hold the company in higher regard, these days. That's not necessarily surprising considering the five-year track record of earnings growth.

It's nice to see that Plexus shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 47% over the last year.
