An Insider At DocuSign Lowered Their Holding Recently

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.
DocuSign Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Independent Director, Peter Solvik, for US$900k worth of shares, at about US$60.00 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$90.21, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. This single sale was just 6.0% of Peter Solvik's stake. Peter Solvik was the only individual insider to sell over the last year.

Insider Ownership
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. DocuSign insiders own 1.1% of the company, currently worth about US$194m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
