At the International Regulatory Conference (IRC) 2025, held at the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, highlighted the importance of balancing technological advancements with robust regulations to ensure a safer and more inclusive digital future.

Fadzil stressed the importance of regulations that foster secure, sustainable technological growth while addressing key risks such as cybersecurity threats, online scams, and data breaches. The Minister shared that MCMC had already blocked over 3.1 billion suspected scam calls and processed nearly 12,000 scam-related complaints, demonstrating Malaysia's commitment to fighting cyber threats.

He also highlighted the need for cooperation with regional partners, particularly within ASEAN, to foster innovation and set common digital standards. Malaysia, under its ASEAN chairmanship, aims to lead efforts in shaping regional policies for cybersecurity and equitable technology access, ensuring that ASEAN remains a key player in the global tech landscape.

Looking ahead, the IRC will focus on key areas like cybersecurity, telecommunications, and emerging technologies such as AI and quantum computing. Fadzil urged stakeholders to engage in discussions to develop regulatory frameworks that promote innovation while safeguarding consumer interests, fostering a secure digital environment for all.

The conference, which spans two days, will delve into sectors like healthcare, financial markets, and logistics, where technological innovation holds transformative potential.

Fahmi concluded his opening remarks by calling for active participation to address the complexities of the digital age and build a connected, safer, and more inclusive future for all.
