While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.
Redfin Insider Transactions Over The Last Year
In the last twelve months, the biggest single purchase by an insider was when President Glenn Kelman bought US$196k worth of shares at a price of US$6.41 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$7.42), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership
Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Insiders own 4.3% of Redfin shares, worth about US$41m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
