$迪士尼 (DIS.US)$ Disney's problem is content quality, not distribution.
No one is better at monetizing content than Disney. They are already figuring out how to use both streaming and movies to max total revenue. They'll tie that content to their parks, and to their merchandising better than anyone else.
But it all rests on making content that people really want, because maxing out the revenue on bad content is meaningless. And Disney has let the quality of their content slip in the last few years, and it is showing.
"Eternals" is a perfect example. It is a bad movie according to everyone I know who has seen it. 2 1/2 hours that leave you absolutely flat. My teens, who are big Marvel fans, have no interest in seeing it because their friends told them not to waste their time. "Black Widow" was another one -- no interest in seeing it in the theatres, and they just told me the other day they hadn't even watched on Disney+ where it is now free.
Covid covered up that Disney didn't really make very good movies the last 18 months. You can blame it on bad mgmt or on production constraints or on "woke" or "cancel culture" or whatever... but whatever the problem(s) is/are, they have to own up to it and fix it.
