Here's Why We Think Noble (NYSE:NE) Might Deserve Your Attention Today

It's common for many investors, especially those who are inexperienced, to buy shares in companies with a good story even if these companies are loss-making. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, so investors in these companies may be taking on more risk than they should.

So if this idea of high risk and high reward doesn't suit, you might be more interested in profitable, growing companies, like Noble (NYSE:NE). Even if this company is fairly valued by the market, investors would agree that generating consistent profits will continue to provide Noble with the means to add long-term value to shareholders.

Noble's Improving Profits

Noble has undergone a massive growth in earnings per share over the last three years. So much so that this three year growth rate wouldn't be a fair assessment of the company's future. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. Impressively, Noble's EPS catapulted from US$1.99 to US$3.38, over the last year. Year on year growth of 70% is certainly a sight to behold. Shareholders will be hopeful that this is a sign of the company reaching an inflection point.

It's often helpful to take a look at earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. Noble shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 17% to 25%, and revenue is growing. Both of which are great metrics to check off for potential growth.

Are Noble Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Noble Insiders

We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a US$6.9b company like Noble. But we do take comfort from the fact that they are investors in the company. Notably, they have an enviable stake in the company, worth US$123m. Holders should find this level of insider commitment quite encouraging, since it would ensure that the leaders of the company would also experience their success, or failure, with the stock.
