Huayi Tencent Entertainment Company Limited (HKG:419) Might Not Be As Mispriced As It Looks After Plunging 27%

華誼騰訊娛樂有限公司(HKG:419)股價下跌27%後,其實不像外界認爲的那麼被高估。

The Huayi Tencent Entertainment Company Limited (HKG:419) share price has softened a substantial 27% over the previous 30 days, handing back much of the gains the stock has made lately. Instead of being rewarded, shareholders who have already held through the last twelve months are now sitting on a 47% share price drop.

Although its price has dipped substantially, you could still be forgiven for feeling indifferent about Huayi Tencent Entertainment's P/S ratio of 0.8x, since the median price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio for the Hospitality industry in Hong Kong is about the same. Although, it's not wise to simply ignore the P/S without explanation as investors may be disregarding a distinct opportunity or a costly mistake.

How Huayi Tencent Entertainment Has Been Performing

For instance, Huayi Tencent Entertainment's receding revenue in recent times would have to be some food for thought. It might be that many expect the company to put the disappointing revenue performance behind them over the coming period, which has kept the P/S from falling. If not, then existing shareholders may be a little nervous about the viability of the share price.

We don't have analyst forecasts, but you can see how recent trends are setting up the company for the future by checking out our free report on Huayi Tencent Entertainment's earnings, revenue and cash flow.

How Is Huayi Tencent Entertainment's Revenue Growth Trending?

The only time you'd be comfortable seeing a P/S like Huayi Tencent Entertainment's is when the company's growth is tracking the industry closely.

In reviewing the last year of financials, we were disheartened to see the company's revenues fell to the tune of 15%. Spectacularly, three year revenue growth has ballooned by several orders of magnitude, despite the drawbacks experienced in the last 12 months. Accordingly, shareholders will be pleased, but also have some serious questions to ponder about the last 12 months.

This is in contrast to the rest of the industry, which is expected to grow by 19% over the next year, materially lower than the company's recent medium-term annualised growth rates.

With this information, we find it interesting that Huayi Tencent Entertainment is trading at a fairly similar P/S compared to the industry. Apparently some shareholders believe the recent performance is at its limits and have been accepting lower selling prices.

The Bottom Line On Huayi Tencent Entertainment's P/S

Huayi Tencent Entertainment's plummeting stock price has brought its P/S back to a similar region as the rest of the industry. Using the price-to-sales ratio alone to determine if you should sell your stock isn't sensible, however it can be a practical guide to the company's future prospects.

We've established that Huayi Tencent Entertainment currently trades on a lower than expected P/S since its recent three-year growth is higher than the wider industry forecast. When we see strong revenue with faster-than-industry growth, we can only assume potential risks are what might be placing pressure on the P/S ratio. While recent revenue trends over the past medium-term suggest that the risk of a price decline is low, investors appear to see the likelihood of revenue fluctuations in the future.

And what about other risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 2 warning signs for Huayi Tencent Entertainment (of which 1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) you should know about.
