Institutional investors own over 50% of the company, so together than can probably strongly influence board decisions. Transocean is not owned by hedge funds. Perestroika AS is currently the company's largest shareholder with 9.3% of shares outstanding. In comparison, the second and third largest shareholders hold about 9.1% and 7.3% of the stock. Additionally, the company's CEO Jeremy Thigpen directly holds 0.6% of the total shares outstanding.
