BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched a new model in Indonesia, continuing its efforts in exploring international markets.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker recently launched its all-electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) BYD M6 at the 31st GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), according to a press release yesterday.

The M6 is BYD's first MPV model launched in the Indonesian market and is also the first all-electric MPV in the local market, according to the company.

The model is available in Indonesia with 7-seat and 6-seat options with a price range of Indonesian Rupiah 379 million to 429 million.

The launch of the M6 underscores BYD's dedication to the Indonesian market and aims to meet Indonesian consumers' demand for eco-friendly mobility solutions, said Eagle Zhao, general manager of BYD Indonesia.

It is worth noting that BYD does not currently offer the M6 in its home market of China, where the company had launched the now-discontinued gas-powered M6 in July 2010 as its first MPV model.

BYD ceased production and sales of cars powered entirely by combustion engines in March 2022, switching to focus on the production of plug-in hybrids and pure electric vehicles.

On March 12, 2022, BYD launched the Song Max DM-i in China, the BYD brand's only MPV in the past two years. The Song Max DM-i is no longer being continued to be displayed on BYD's website.

The main MPV sold in China under the BYD Group umbrella is the Denza-branded D9, which has sold more than 10,000 units per month in each of the past four months.

In June, the D9 sold 10,186 units, contributing 83 percent of Denza's monthly sales, data compiled by CnEVPost showed.

In addition to launching the all-electric M6, BYD is also offering new trims in Indonesia for the Dolphin and Atto 3, the Dolphin Dynamic and BYD Atto 3 Advanced. The Atto 3 is Yuan Plus in China.

BYD entered the Indonesian passenger car market in January, when it launched the Seal, Dolphin and Atto 3 in the country, and planned to invest $1.3 billion in a plant with a capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

BYD would start producing EVs in Indonesia in 2026, a local official said on March 20.

BYD vehicles currently sold in Indonesia are imported, and the company delivered its first 1,000 units there on July 2.

BYD sold 341,658 NEVs in June, up 35.02 percent year-on-year and up 2.97 percent from May, according to data released on July 1.

The company sold 26,995 vehicles overseas in June, up 156.22 percent year-on-year, albeit 28.01 percent lower than in May.
