Maybank has announced the appointment of Mohamed Rezwan Abdullah Ismail as its new Group Chief Risk Officer (GCRO), effective from 8 August 2024. In his new role, Mohamed Rezwan will be responsible for devising, leading, and implementing an advanced enterprise-wide risk management framework to effectively identify, manage, and mitigate risks, thereby supporting Maybank Group's strategic and business objectives. He will report directly to the President & Group Chief Executive Officer (PGCEO) and will be a key member of the Group Executive Committee.

Mohamed Rezwan, 48, succeeds Datuk Hamzah Bachee, who will retire on 8 August 2024 after nearly 36 years with Maybank Group. With a banking career spanning over 25 years, including his recent role as Deputy GCRO, Mohamed Rezwan has been instrumental in assessing and transforming critical risk functions. His leadership has enhanced risk identification, measurement, and climate risk management, and overseen the implementation of the revised Basel III framework.

Mohamed Rezwan's extensive experience includes 19 years at Bank Negara Malaysia, where he served as the Director of Financial Conglomerates Supervision. He has also held prominent positions as Chief Risk and Compliance Officer at Lembaga Tabung Haji and Chief Risk Officer at Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad. Prior to joining Maybank, he was the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer of Etiqa International Holdings. Mohamed Rezwan holds a Bachelor of Accounting from Michigan State University.

Dato' Khairussaleh Ramli, PGCEO of Maybank, highlighted that this appointment reflects the success of Maybank's internal succession planning and aligns with its talent management strategy to bolster internal capacity. He praised Mohamed Rezwan's extensive experience in risk management and compliance, noting that his background in regulatory management will be pivotal in strengthening enterprise-wide risk management and supporting the Group's growth ambitions, particularly under the M25+ strategy.

Dato' Khairussaleh also expressed gratitude to Datuk Hamzah for his significant contributions and dedication throughout his tenure. Under Datuk Hamzah's leadership, Maybank has fostered a robust risk-awareness culture, implemented transformative initiatives for international units, streamlined risk management practices, and enhanced asset quality management, thereby reinforcing Maybank's reputation as a trusted brand.
