Looking at Blend Labs, Inc.'s (NYSE:BLND ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Blend Labs Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Co-Founder, Nima Ghamsari, for US$2.0m worth of shares, at about US$2.84 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$3.74, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. We note that the biggest single sale was 100% of Nima Ghamsari's holding. Nima Ghamsari was the only individual insider to sell shares in the last twelve months.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Blend Labs insiders own 5.9% of the company, worth about US$56m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Blend Labs Tell Us?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Blend Labs shares in the last quarter. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Blend Labs insiders. The modest level of insider ownership is, at least, some comfort.
