Even With A 25% Surge, Cautious Investors Are Not Rewarding Fluence Energy, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:FLNC) Performance Completely

即使股價上漲了25%,謹慎的投資者也沒有完全對Fluence能源公司(納斯達克股票代碼FLNC)的表現予以獎勵

Fluence Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ:FLNC) shareholders are no doubt pleased to see that the share price has bounced 25% in the last month, although it is still struggling to make up recently lost ground. Unfortunately, the gains of the last month did little to right the losses of the last year with the stock still down 33% over that time.

In spite of the firm bounce in price, Fluence Energy may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-sales (or "P/S") ratio of 1.1x, since almost half of all companies in the Electrical industry in the United States have P/S ratios greater than 1.6x and even P/S higher than 4x are not unusual. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/S at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

What Does Fluence Energy's P/S Mean For Shareholders?

Recent times haven't been great for Fluence Energy as its revenue has been rising slower than most other companies. It seems that many are expecting the uninspiring revenue performance to persist, which has repressed the growth of the P/S ratio. If you still like the company, you'd be hoping revenue doesn't get any worse and that you could pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

What Are Revenue Growth Metrics Telling Us About The Low P/S?

The only time you'd be truly comfortable seeing a P/S as low as Fluence Energy's is when the company's growth is on track to lag the industry.

Taking a look back first, we see that the company managed to grow revenues by a handy 7.9% last year. This was backed up an excellent period prior to see revenue up by 193% in total over the last three years. So we can start by confirming that the company has done a great job of growing revenues over that time.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the analysts covering the company suggest revenue should grow by 34% each year over the next three years. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is forecast to only expand by 27% each year, which is noticeably less attractive.

In light of this, it's peculiar that Fluence Energy's P/S sits below the majority of other companies. It looks like most investors are not convinced at all that the company can achieve future growth expectations.

The Final Word

Despite Fluence Energy's share price climbing recently, its P/S still lags most other companies. We'd say the price-to-sales ratio's power isn't primarily as a valuation instrument but rather to gauge current investor sentiment and future expectations.

Fluence Energy's analyst forecasts revealed that its superior revenue outlook isn't contributing to its P/S anywhere near as much as we would have predicted. The reason for this depressed P/S could potentially be found in the risks the market is pricing in. At least price risks look to be very low, but investors seem to think future revenues could see a lot of volatility.
