BYD rolled out the 2025 Han sedan, with the hybrid Han DM-i upgraded to the DM 5.0 system and the pure electric Han EV upgraded to the 800 V high-voltage architecture.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched a refreshed version of its flagship sedan, the Han, bringing lower prices and better specs, as well as a LiDAR option for the first time on the model.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker rolled out the 2025 Han at a launch event today, offering battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants, just like its predecessor.

The hybrid Han DM-i is priced lower than its predecessor across the board, with a starting price of RMB 165,800 ($23,300), down RMB 4,000, or 2.36 percent, from RMB 169,800 for the previous Han DM-i Glory Edition.

The starting price of the all-electric Han EV remains unchanged at RMB 179,800, but all other variants of the BEV model are priced lower.

Originally launched in July 2020, the Han is BYD's flagship sedan and has received several major updates over the past four years.

The sedan's last update came on February 28 this year, when BYD launched the Han Glory Edition at a starting price of RMB 169,800, RMB 20,000 lower than its predecessor.

To date, the Han family of models has sold a total of 800,000 units, four years after its launch.

2025 Han DM-i

The Han is a mid-to-large-size sedan, and the 2025 Han -- including BEV and PHEV variants – both measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.

The 2025 Han DM-i is offered in five variants with starting prices of RMB 165,800, RMB 175,800, RMB 185,800, RMB 195,800 and RMB 225,800 respectively.

For comparison, the previously available Han DM-i Glory Edition was also offered in 5 variants, with higher starting prices of RMB 169,800, RMB 179,800, RMB 189,800, RMB 199,800, and RMB 225,800 respectively.

The 2025 Han DM-i is based on BYD's latest DM 5.0 hybrid technology and comes standard with a plug-in-specific 1.5Ti engine with the EHS200 electric hybrid system.

The engine has a thermal efficiency of 45.3 percent, BYD said, adding that the hybrid consumes 3.8 L per 100 kilometers on low battery charge, which is even lower than a small conventional fuel car.

The 2025 Han DM-i is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.9 seconds, which is faster than its predecessor because of the enhanced performance of both the engine and the motor.

All variants of the model have a CLTC range of 125 kilometers on battery power.

The highest priced variant comes with LiDAR and the DiPilot 300 driver assistance system, which brings support for the city's NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) feature.

The smart driving system uses 31 sensors and includes an Nvidia Orin X smart driving chip with a computing power of 254 TOPS.

2025 Han EV

The 2025 Han EV is built entirely on the 800 V high-voltage architecture, which brings better energy efficiency compared to its predecessor's 400 V platform.

The model is offered in five variants with starting prices of RMB 179,800, RMB 195,800, RMB 209,800 and RMB 235,800 respectively.

For comparison, its predecessor, the Han EV Glory Edition, was offered in four variants with starting prices of RMB 179,800, RMB 199,800, RMB 219,800, and RMB 249,800.

The 2025 Han EV comes standard with a front electric motor that produces 150 kW of peak power and 310 Nm of peak torque, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 7.9 seconds.

The highest priced variant of its predecessor was the dual-motor model that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, while all other variants were single-motor models that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

Similar to the hybrid version, the 2025 Han EV also gets LiDAR in the highest priced variant, as well as the DiPilot 300 driver assistance system.

The two lowest-priced variants of the BEV have CLTC ranges of 506 and 605 kilometers respectively, while the other two both have a range of 701 kilometers.

The Han family sold 17,029 vehicles in August, down 25.18 percent year-on-year and 5.67 percent from July, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In the January-August period, the Han family sold 139,252 vehicles, down 3.32 percent year-on-year, and contributed 5.98 percent of BYD's NEV sales in the same period.
