The oldest continuously published magazine in the U.S. is endorsing current Vice President Kamala Harris for president in the 2024 election.

What Happened: Election polls indicate a tight contest between Harris and Donald Trump in the 2024 race, making high-profile endorsements potentially crucial in influencing undecided voters.

Harris landed an endorsement from the United Auto Workers union and could be nearing an endorsement from the Teamsters union.

The vice president has also landed endorsements from celebrities and business leaders. Her latest endorsement may not bring in the same fanfare, but could show how she differs from her opponent in some areas.

Scientific American announced it is endorsing Harris for the 2024 election. The endorsement is only the second time the magazine has endorsed a presidential candidate in its 179-year history. The magazine previously endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

The magazine cites the vice president's plans on health, the economy and climate change as the reasons for the endorsement and also said Trump proves a threat on some of the same issues along with having a dangerous record.

Scientific American says Harris relies on science and embraces technology and clean energy.

"She supports education, public health and reproductive rights. She treats the climate crisis as the emergency it is," the magazine said.

Harris as president could "improve the fate of this country and the world," the magazine wrote.

The magazine compares and contrasts how Harris and Trump differ on items such as health care, reproductive rights, gun safety, climate change and technology.

"Trump said climate change is a hoax, and he dodged the question, 'What would you do to fight climate change?' during the September debate. He pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement."

The editorial piece says Harris is a vote "for reality and integrity."
