Some Workiva Inc. (NYSE:WK) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Independent Director, Suku Radia, recently sold a substantial US$2.4m worth of stock at a price of US$95.00 per share. That's a big disposal, and it decreased their holding size by 40%, which is notable but not too bad.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Workiva

Workiva

Notably, that recent sale by Suku Radia is the biggest insider sale of Workiva shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$93.23. We generally don't like to see insider selling, but the lower the sale price, the more it concerns us. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Over the last year we saw more insider selling of Workiva shares, than buying. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Workiva insiders own 11% of the company, worth about US$573m. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Do The Workiva Insider Transactions Indicate?

The insider sales have outweighed the insider buying, at Workiva, in the last three months. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. Every company has risks, and we've spotted 4 warning signs for Workiva (of which 1 doesn't sit too well with us!) you should know about.
