Not Many Are Piling Into XGD Inc. (SZSE:300130) Stock Yet As It Plummets 26%

XGD Inc. (SZSE:300130) shares have retraced a considerable 26% in the last month, reversing a fair amount of their solid recent performance. The last month has meant the stock is now only up 9.1% during the last year.

In spite of the heavy fall in price, XGD may still be sending bullish signals at the moment with its price-to-earnings (or "P/E") ratio of 28.3x, since almost half of all companies in China have P/E ratios greater than 36x and even P/E's higher than 70x are not unusual. Although, it's not wise to just take the P/E at face value as there may be an explanation why it's limited.

XGD certainly has been doing a good job lately as its earnings growth has been positive while most other companies have been seeing their earnings go backwards. One possibility is that the P/E is low because investors think the company's earnings are going to fall away like everyone else's soon. If you like the company, you'd be hoping this isn't the case so that you could potentially pick up some stock while it's out of favour.

SZSE:300130 Price to Earnings Ratio vs Industry November 20th 2024
Keen to find out how analysts think XGD's future stacks up against the industry? In that case, our free report is a great place to start.

Is There Any Growth For XGD?

In order to justify its P/E ratio, XGD would need to produce sluggish growth that's trailing the market.

If we review the last year of earnings growth, the company posted a terrific increase of 60%. The strong recent performance means it was also able to grow EPS by 482% in total over the last three years. Therefore, it's fair to say the earnings growth recently has been superb for the company.

Shifting to the future, estimates from the four analysts covering the company suggest earnings should grow by 108% over the next year. That's shaping up to be materially higher than the 40% growth forecast for the broader market.

With this information, we find it odd that XGD is trading at a P/E lower than the market. It looks like most investors are not convinced at all that the company can achieve future growth expectations.

What We Can Learn From XGD's P/E?

The softening of XGD's shares means its P/E is now sitting at a pretty low level. While the price-to-earnings ratio shouldn't be the defining factor in whether you buy a stock or not, it's quite a capable barometer of earnings expectations.

We've established that XGD currently trades on a much lower than expected P/E since its forecast growth is higher than the wider market. There could be some major unobserved threats to earnings preventing the P/E ratio from matching the positive outlook. It appears many are indeed anticipating earnings instability, because these conditions should normally provide a boost to the share price.

There are also other vital risk factors to consider and we've discovered 3 warning signs for XGD (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) that you should be aware of before investing here.

Of course, you might find a fantastic investment by looking at a few good candidates. So take a peek at this free list of companies with a strong growth track record, trading on a low P/E.
