We wouldn't blame Triumph Financial, Inc. (NASDAQ:TFIN) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Aaron Graft, the Founder recently netted about US$1.4m selling shares at an average price of US$106. However, it's crucial to note that they remain very much invested in the stock and that sale only reduced their holding by 8.8%.

Triumph Financial Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Founder Aaron Graft was not their only sale of Triumph Financial shares this year. Earlier in the year, they fetched US$72.92 per share in a -US$1.8m sale. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$103). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was only 14% of Aaron Graft's holding.

Does Triumph Financial Boast High Insider Ownership?

Triumph Financial

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Triumph Financial insiders own 5.3% of the company, currently worth about US$130m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.
