Sunway Group And MOHE Partner To Advance TVET Education In Malaysia
Sunway Group has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to bolster Technical and Vocational Educational and Training (TVET) programmes. The collaboration focuses on skills and expertise sharing, industrial training, and human capital development, with Ibrahim Sultan Polytechnic serving as a key partner under MOHE's Department of Polytechnic and Community Colleges.
The partnership will offer internship opportunities to TVET students from Malaysia's southern region, while implementing Structured Industrial Training programmes to enhance practical skills and meet evolving industry demands. To date, Sunway has extended similar opportunities to over 200 TVET students nationwide through collaborations with institutions such as Universiti Teknologi MARA and the National Youth Advanced Skills Training Institute.
Sunway Group chief HR officer Foo Shiang Wyne highlighted the importance of this initiative, expressing confidence in its potential to produce a competent workforce aligned with market needs. Ts. Razak bin Sabtu, Senior Director of Competency at the Department of Polytechnic and Community Colleges, echoed this sentiment, emphasising Sunway's role as a strategic partner in expanding training opportunities and job placements for graduates.
This MoU aligns with the government's commitment to vocational education, reflected in the RM7.5 billion allocation in Budget 2025, an increase from RM6.8 billion. It also marks a significant step towards bridging academia and industry, reinforcing the nation's push for quality human capital development across key industries such as hospitality, healthcare, and automotive sectors.
