From what we can see, insiders were net sellers in Bank First Corporation's (NASDAQ:BFC ) during the past 12 months. That is, insiders sold the stock in greater numbers than they purchased it.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Bank First Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Independent Director, Stephen Johnson, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$255k worth of shares at a price of US$106 each. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$101. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Stephen Johnson.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 1.25k shares worth US$103k. But they sold 2.40k shares for US$255k. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Over the last three months, we've seen significant insider selling at Bank First. In total, Independent Director Stephen Johnson sold US$255k worth of shares in that time, and we didn't record any purchases whatsoever. This may suggest that some insiders think that the shares are not cheap.

Insider Ownership Of Bank First

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Bank First insiders own 10.0% of the company, currently worth about US$106m based on the recent share price. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Bank First Insiders?

An insider hasn't bought Bank First stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. Despite some insider buying, the longer term picture doesn't make us feel much more positive. On the plus side, Bank First makes money, and is growing profits. The company boasts high insider ownership, but we're a little hesitant, given the history of share sales. While it's good to be aware of what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. To help with this, we've discovered 2 warning signs (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable!) that you ought to be aware of before buying any shares in Bank First.

Of course, you might find a fantastic investment by looking elsewhere. So take a peek at this free list of interesting companies.
