GAC plans to have GoMate in experimental use in some industries in 2025 and small-scale production in 2026
GAC Group has unveiled its humanoid robot, as local car companies become more interested in the field.
The Chinese auto giant unveiled GoMate at an event in Shanghai today, calling it the third generation of its in-house developed embodied artificial intelligence robot.
GoMate demonstrated motion control, navigation and localization, and autonomous decision-making capabilities at the event.
It is a full-size, wheeled humanoid robot with 38 degrees of freedom (DoF).
The humanoid's form can be switched between quadrupedal and bipedal modes. Its height is about 1.4 meters in quadrupedal mode and up to 1.75 meters in bipedal mode.
This design improves the robot's adaptability and stability in complex environments and dramatically reduces energy consumption by more than 80 percent compared to similar products, GAC claimed.
GoMate is equipped with GAC's all-solid-state batteries with a six-hour battery life on a single charge, according to the company.
Such products have a wide range of potential in areas such as security, healthcare, automotive aftermarket, to enhance human efficiency and capabilities, and will also be useful in other areas including logistics and education, GAC said.
After a period of training, GoMate will first be put into GAC's automotive production lines to perform tasks including inspections.
GAC plans to have GoMate in pilot use in several industries in 2025, and to realize small-volume production in 2026, with mass production to begin next.
Notably, GAC unveiled its second-generation embodied artificial intelligence robot at an event December 8-9 in Guangzhou, where it is headquartered.
The robot has a wheeled structure with vision and haptic systems and is equipped with an AI large models, GAC said earlier this month.
This second generation is battery-powered and has a battery life of more than six hours, according to the automaker. It has not previously mentioned the first-generation product.

On December 13, BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) posted job advertisements on its WeChat platform showing that it was looking for fresh master's and PhD graduate from universities around the world for its intelligence team.
The job details showed the team's research would include humanoid robots, bipedal robots, and quadrupedal mechanical dogs, sparking speculation that BYD may be building humanoid robots.
Earlier today, local media outlet Meiren Auto reported that BYD has set up a dedicated team to develop embodied artificial intelligence products, including humanoid robots.
Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) founder, chairman and CEO Li Xiang said at an AI Talk event yesterday that the company's future foray into humanoid robots is 100 percent in probability, just not right now.
