Looking at Helios Technologies, Inc.'s (NYSE:HLIO ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Check out our latest analysis for Helios Technologies

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Helios Technologies

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Independent Chairman, Philippe Lemaitre, sold US$180k worth of shares at a price of US$65.52 per share. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. It's of some comfort that this sale was conducted at a price well above the current share price, which is US$42.68. So it may not shed much light on insider confidence at current levels. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Philippe Lemaitre.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Helios Technologies insiders own about US$10m worth of shares. That equates to 0.7% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Helios Technologies Insiders?

There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. We don't take much encouragement from the transactions by Helios Technologies insiders. But it's good to see that insiders own shares in the company. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. Be aware that Helios Technologies is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis, and 1 of those is potentially serious...
