Malaysian Shares End in Green on Monday; Tanco's Shares Dive Over 34%

Malaysian shares opened the week in the green zone, extending gains from the previous session, despite the weak regional market sentiment.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, the main gauge of Malaysian stocks, added 4.82 points to end 0.32% higher at 1,491.19.

In economic news, Malaysia's annual inflation rate remained unchanged at 1.5% in December 2023 from the preceding month, as expected, according to a Monday release from the Department of Statistics.

The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia stood at $115.1 billion as of Jan. 15, said the central bank on Monday. The reserves position is sufficient to finance 5.4 months of imports of goods and services and is one time the total short-term external debt.

In corporate news, shares of the latex glove maker Tanco (KLSE:TANCO) jumped over 34%, and those of anti-theft and keyless entry systems manufacturer MCE (KLSE:MCEHLDG) jumped about 18% today.

Meanwhile, shares of the integrated energy infrastructure group Wasco (KLSE:WASCO) rose about 10% on Monday's close.
