日本経済産業省は、光学技術(シリコンフォトニクス技術)を開発するための約452億円(約3.07億米ドル)の助成金を提供し、日本の半導体業界の発展を推進すると発表しました。

Zhitong Finance learned that the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan announced that it will provide a subsidy of approximately 45.2 billion yen (approximately US$3.07 billion) for the development of optical technology (silicon photonics technology) for chips to promote the development of Japan's semiconductor industry. According to reports, participating companies include Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), NEC Corporation, Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., Shinko Electric Co., Ltd., Kioxia, as well as Intel(INTC.US) and SK Hynix.

Based on optical technology, the chip industry uses light to send signals, accelerating transmission speed and reducing energy consumption. Japanese Minister of Industry Ken Saito said, "I hope (this technology) can change the game rules in the future."

Countries around the world are striving to improve their chip manufacturing capabilities. In addition, the Japanese government has provided Rapidus, a Japanese high-end semiconductor company headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo and building a factory in Chitose City, Hokkaido, with 330 billion yen. It was reported on Monday that Intel is cooperating with NTT on optical technology to help develop the next generation of semiconductors.

In addition, the Biden administration is expected to provide tens of billions of dollars in subsidies to Intel, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM.US) and other semiconductor companies in the United States to build new factories. At the same time, Intel has signed chip manufacturing facility agreements with Israel, Poland, and Germany.
