Insiders who bought US$311.3k worth of Enhabit, Inc.'s (NYSE:EHAB) stock at an average buy price of US$11.93 over the last year may be disappointed by the recent 13% decrease in the stock. Insiders buy with the expectation to see their investments rise in value over a period of time. However, recent losses have rendered their above investment worth US$232.3k which is not ideal.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Enhabit Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Executive Vice President of Clinical Excellence & Strategy Ronald Langham made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$120k worth of shares at a price of US$11.99 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$8.90). While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. In our view, the price an insider pays for shares is very important. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

In the last twelve months Enhabit insiders were buying shares, but not selling. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 1.9% of Enhabit shares, worth about US$8.9m, according to our data. Overall, this level of ownership isn't that impressive, but it's certainly better than nothing!

So What Does This Data Suggest About Enhabit Insiders?

There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. While we have no worries about the insider transactions, we'd be more comfortable if they owned more Enhabit stock.
