Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In Unum Group

Unumグループでのインサイダー売却を無視しないでください。

Some Unum Group (NYSE:UNM) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the President, Richard McKenney, recently sold a substantial US$2.5m worth of stock at a price of US$49.15 per share. However, it's crucial to note that they remain very much invested in the stock and that sale only reduced their holding by 5.6%.

Unum Group Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent sale by Richard McKenney is the biggest insider sale of Unum Group shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$50.40). We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 5.6% of Richard McKenney's holding.

Does Unum Group Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that Unum Group insiders own 0.8% of the company, worth about US$75m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
